Strength, Confidence, and Community Through Sport
In 2015, ARPD launched its Para Sports Program, recognizing sports as a powerful pathway to rehabilitation, empowerment, and inclusion. Rooted in a belief that athletic participation restores far more than physical strength, the program nurtures dignity, confidence, and genuine community integration for men and women with physical disabilities — many of whom are ARPD employees and instructors themselves. Participants take part in a wide range of adaptive sports, including wheelchair racing, cricket, table tennis, bocce, archery, and strength-based events, building mobility, endurance, and resilience while developing teamwork and leadership skills that extend well beyond the field of play.
Our initiatives aim to empower athletes and foster a culture of inclusion:
Athletes train at a dedicated section of ARPD's Rehabilitation Facility in Peshawar, as well as sports arenas and other venues, giving them consistent, reliable access to practice space and ongoing rehabilitation support — ensuring the program serves athletic and therapeutic goals together. The ARPD Para Sports Team regularly competes in provincial-level tournaments, including the well-known "For All Sports, Games for Persons with Different Abilities," organized by the Directorate General of Sports, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Year after year, ARPD athletes have distinguished themselves with outstanding performances, earning trophies, medals, and recognition across multiple disciplines.
These achievements are more than personal wins — they demonstrate to wider society the strength, skill, and determination of para-athletes, challenging assumptions and shifting perceptions one competition at a time. Beyond the trophies and medals, the Para Sports Program stands as a model of how athletics can drive rehabilitation and social change together, promoting physical well-being, building lasting resilience, and empowering participants to break through social barriers that too often go unchallenged. By showcasing what persons with disabilities can achieve on a public stage, the program continues to advance ARPD's broader mission of a more equitable society.
