The ARPD’s mission is to provide and promote rehabilitation services for the people with disabilities, particularly in remote villages, city slums and sub-urbs where these services are hardly available and less accessible. The means employed would be community oriented awareness creation, advocacy, networking, training and all such other activities that can be conductive to the integration of the disabled/the handicapped in the mainstream society.

Association for Rehabilitation of the Physically Disabled (ARPD) is a well-known organization. The organization is a widely recognized non-governmental organization that strives to improve the lives of underdeveloped and vulnerable communities with special focus on Persons with Disabilities in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The organization started its activities from the grass root level and now working at provincial and country level. ARPD is playing an effective role in the uplift of the health and living condition of persons with disabilities. It was founded for the well-being of people with disabilities. It was established in 1985 under the Social Welfare Act. Further, ARPD established a Rehabilitation Center for the Physically Disabled (RCPD) in Peshawar. RCPD has so far provided relief and rehabilitation services to thousands of people with Physical Disabilities.
It is a project of Association for Rehabilitation of Physically Disabled (ARPD), which is a charitable organization established under the Social Welfare Department. The great Mrs. Farhat Rehman was laid down the foundation of ARPD in 1985. After some time, she established a rehabilitation center for physically disabled people in Peshawar.
As one of the biggest Rehabilitation and care centers for physically disabled people in Pakistan, Rehabilitation Center for Physically Disabled (RCPD) offers a complete range of health care and rehabilitation services including clinical, diagnostic, out-patient, and others We provide Physio therapy for stroke, polio, spinal cord injury, cerebral palsy, and bomb blast victims.

Working Strategy/ Methodology:
Community Rehabilitation, mobilization, organization and strengthening are the basic working strategy of ARPD to work with different communities and Partner Organizations. ARPD is working in different sectors such as rehabilitation services for physically disabled, awareness raising and advocacy, networking, capacity development, skills development, services provision, inclusive education, Out-reach patients camps, Speech Therapy ,recreational and sports activities for PwDs and empowerment of women with Disabilities, youth, children and physically disabled people since 1985 in Khyber Pakhtonkhwa and FATA. ARPD has been working with different segments of communities such as men, women, teachers, doctors, nurses, youth and persons with disabilities in different sectors. All the communities have their own dynamics which require different tools and strategies for mobilization and working for development. ARPD has the required experience and skills to mobilize, sensitize and organize different communities for different kind of activities. There are different stages and tools for Community mobilization and organization, group formation and cluster establishment. ARPD has worked with the conservative societies such as in FATA and has the experience, skills, and capacity to mobilize, sensitize and organize different communities especially persons with disabilities and women community for Rehabilitation services and development activities. Currently ARPD has formed and registered Minority of women named POWER (Promotion of Women Empowerment and Rehabilitation) in District Peshawar and has built up their capacities.
ARPD has formed CBR (Community Based Rehabilitation) network,, parent teacher councils and health committees and also worked on their capacity building and networking.
ARPD has vast experience of working for persons with disabilities and rehabilitation of physically disabled people. ARPD works in the light of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD) to promote, protect and ensure the full and equal enjoyment of all human rights and fundamental freedoms by all persons with disabilities, and to promote respect for their inherent dignity. ARPD is actively works on the advocacy, policies, awareness raising, relief, rehabilitation, inclusive education and skill development for the persons with disabilities through different innovative approaches.
